good deal of what I have written here is related (sometimes only tangentially) to serious music. Some posts are accompanied by live broadcast recordings. To contact me, email at boomboomsky at gmail dot com.
There are no commercial recordings on this blog.
A word of warning: Occasionally I use strong (and insensitive) language in referring to various arrogant and incompetent assholes who managed to get on my nerves. Or simply because it gets a point across with greater directness and transparency. If you are squeamish about such language, then stay away from this blog.

Four years later it is still about unbuttoned jackets...

Mr. Andsnes played the piece while seated calmly, never bothering to unbutton his stylish suit jacket.
Anthony Tommasini, New York Times, January 19, 2008

... in his modest yet commanding way, without even unbuttoning the jacket of his suit, Mr. Andsnes brought out excitement, inventiveness and beauty in works by Haydn, Bartok, Debussy and Chopin.
Anthony Tommasini, New York Times, February 16, 2012

What the fuck is it with Tommasini and Leif Andsnes' unbuttoned jackets (stylish or otherwise)?

Saw Michael Gielen conduct some Webern one time..He was wearing one of those jackets that had metal buttons that jumped and jangled against one another whenever he gave it some with his arms and body..Now given the many conducted silences and tendency towards ppp anyway in Webern's music that was always gonna be plainly ridiculous..Of course no one in the band was ever gonna tell him to get shot of it..This was one jacket with its stupid buttons needed putting out its (and my) misery..It had no place in a concert hall!
